Samuel Reinard (Independent Little Lies)

Depuis plus de 100 ans, l’industrie sidérurgique fait partie du paysage de la ville d’Esch-sur-Alzette et du bassin minier luxembourgeois et lorrain. Le projet Nightsongs prend ce paysage sonore nocturne comme point de départ pour une série de compositions électroniques explorant les facettes de la nuit, leur dimension poétique et leur lien à l’histoire sidérurgique. En utilisant le field-recording, l'empreinte sonore de sites industriels en activité (ArcelorMittal, Belval) et à l'arrêt (Metzeschmelz & FerroForum, Esch-Schifflange) a été enregistrée et éditée pour constituer une bibliothèque de sons servant de base pour les pièces musicales du projet. L’installation sonore plonge le/la visiteur.rice dans une expérience immersive des extraits sonores grâce au système multicanal ambisonique « Trinity » de MadTrix et remet ainsi l’écoute consciente au centre de sa démarche. Telle une machine sonore à voyager dans le temps, l’installation amène l’auditeur.rice à travers différentes temporalités et tableaux sonores tout en l’invitant à habiter les paysages qui résonnent autour de lui/elle.

NIGHTSONGS - Sound installation

Samuel Reinard (Independent Little Lies)

For more than 100 years, the steel industry has been part of the landscape of the town of Esch-sur-Alzette and of the Luxembourg and Lorraine mining basin.The Nightsongs project takes this nocturnal soundscape as the starting point for a series of electronic compositions exploring the facets of the night, their poetic dimension and their link to steel history. Using field-recording, the sound footprint of industrial sites in operation (ArcelorMittal, Belval) and shut down (Metzeschmelz & FerroForum, Esch-Schifflange) was recorded and edited to constitute a sound library serving as a basis for the musical pieces of the project.The sound installation immerses the visitor in an immersive experience of sound extracts thanks to MadTrix's "Trinity" ambisonic multichannel system and thus puts conscious listening at the center of its approach. Like a sound machine traveling through time, the installation takes the listener through different temporalities and soundscapes while inviting them to inhabit the landscapes that resonate around them.
